Our Expertise

RTM provides engineering consulting services nationwide and is licensed in all 50 states. Our offering spans all major engineering disciplines and our focus never strays from delivering unbeatable attention to detail through a customer-centric design process.

Mechanical engineering is where it all started for RTM. We’ve evolved in a number of ways since our initial focus on HVAC for datacenter builds. Since the beginning though, we have provided efficient and innovative mechanical designs.

Our engineers work diligently to satisfy both energy goals and comfort requirements for building occupants. Over the years we have developed unmatched expertise with an extensive repertoire of specialized systems.

These include centralized and decentralized air systems, central plant design, thermal storage, and critical cooling systems, involving a variety of layout, vendor, and product options within each. In short, RTM’s knowledge base ensures the right design of every system on every project.

RTM Associates

RTM has expertise in designing lighting and power systems for a multitude of applications ranging from hospital operating rooms to industrial warehouses. We hold that primary and secondary power supply with proper distribution channels create the heart of a safe and reliable facility.

Our teams of experts are able to decipher what is theoretically appropriate from what is truly feasible on each project. We then continue a proactive process of guiding clients through a rich assortment of vendors and products. In the end the goal is the same; to create the safest and most cost effective electrical distribution within project constraints.

RTM engineers specify an extensive range of specialized plumbing services. As with all other systems, plumbing must be harmonized to suit client objectives for sustainability, user convenience, project cost constraints, and physical space limitations.

Our customers rely on us for various rollout projects, and with that we’ve become fully adept to the nuances of designs for ADA compliant systems, gas piping, fuel oil piping, water usage estimates, gas usage estimates, sanitary and storm water drainage, domestic cold and hot water distribution and plumbing fixture specification.

In addition, RTM looks to the future with a focus on the practical application of “green” technology and LEED credit strategies within the plumbing discipline.

RTM offers design-scope fire sprinkler services with careful adherence to NFPA, FM, and IRI standards. Our experience covers a wide range of fire prevention and protection systems including but not limited to in-rack sprinkler designs, fire tank design and detailing, advanced fire alarm annunciation and fire detection systems, and special computer room systems with pre-action capabilities.

We also have deep knowledge in the implementation of various types of extinguishing systems including water mist, FM 200, and carbon dioxide. Both diesel and electric fire pump designs are possible depending on project scope. RTM can manage anything from the common “wet” system to numerous iterations of specialized “dry” designs typically used in computer rooms and data centers.

In addition, RTM designs diesel and electric fire pump systems with purpose built fire pump room layouts which incorporate expertise from multiple engineering disciplines.

At RTM, sustainability has always been a priority because keeping systems running efficiently makes all the difference for everyone involved. Whether it’s designing a mission critical data center, a fleet of city buildings, or an elementary school in a small town, RTM leverages in-depth experience in a variety of markets to deliver sustainable and energy-efficient designs.

Buildings need to accommodate the changing demands in an environment of growing energy costs. To satisfy this need, RTM created a Sustainability Studio that focuses specifically on providing clean, efficient solutions to owners. The studio is a consistent, dedicated group of some of the most talented team members who possess the expertise and knowledge to consult on and design for sustainability in projects.

Emphasis is placed on the economic sense of green building strategies through detailed payback analysis. Proven solutions to reducing the owner’s energy usage and costs are a regular part of the RTM philosophy. As partners of USGBC and Energy Star®, the firm is committed to being a leader when it comes to sustainable design.

Commissioning is the quality-focused process of verifying and documenting that the building systems are designed, installed, tested, operated, and maintained so that a facility operates efficiently and meets the functionality as desired by the owner.

Through the early involvement of a commissioning agent in a new project, the goal is to incorporate a second set of eyes for the inclusion of energy-efficient and operationally-based systems in the design phase. This aims to avoid costly maintenance or safety issues from surfacing in construction or occupancy. For existing buildings, the retro-commissioning process identifies systems with less-than-optimal performance and determines upfront costs versus operational savings for upgrading or enhancing these systems to increase performance.

Commissioning is a cost-effective and risk-management strategy for reducing energy and greenhouse gas emissions in buildings today. To further illustrate its importance, the commissioning process is a requirement to obtain a LEED certification.

Benefits of Commissioning

  1. Improve operations and reduce operational costs.
  2. Reduce energy use in buildings to minimize the carbon footprint of greenhouse gas emissions from heating, cooling and lighting.
  3. Provide a comfortable and healthy environment for occupants.
  4. Optimize building controls to ensure the facility meets requirements.
  5. Evaluate current building conditions to communicate improvements.
